"Diligence sounded like a Latin word, so I looked it up and "gence" means "cheek" so not at all related." (Week 48)
Hey y'all!! Another week down! Pdays come pretty fast.
Monday was pretty basic. Emailing, shopping, some painting, then a dinner appointment.
Tuesday I woke up sick, so I didn't have much going on. I did feel decent enough by the evening to go to our dinner appointment. There we got some good gumbo and a great discussion about the Book of Mormon.
Wednesday we had district council. Then we tried some people in the far reaches of our area. We met some cool people. One lady who is a member but doesn't consider herself a member. Little does she know her name is still written in the book of life. That baptism sticks pretty well with that priesthood.
Thursday was fun. Ward coordination, then we tried people in the area. We met one really sweet sister who hasn't come to church in a while because she prefers to teach her kids at home. She had actually kind of forgot about the sacrament. So we took the opportunity to testify about the importance of renewing our covenants each week, and she actually seemed to really like that and said we could visit any time. Then later we met another cool person. We started walking towards this guy, and he told us not to waste our time talking to him. But we talked to him anyway. As we asked about his life he began to soften up, and he was actually okay with us coming back with a book of mormon. Then after dinner we knocked on what we thought was a members door, but in fact wasn't. And again after some conversation was interested in looking into the Book of Mormon for himself.
Friday was Thrift store service, then weekly planning. Then that night we had a lesson with Zuleyka. We brought a sister who speaks Spanish, and she was able to help a ton when there was a language gap. I'm kind of worried about Zuleyka though. She really wants to get baptized, but her boyfriend is concincing her to wait, but she is so ready now. Pray that she will have an experience that let's her know that she is ready. After the lesson, the member took us to get Mexican food:)
Saturday we got to help one of the people we are teaching write a talk. Her family has been baptized, and she went on a Nauvoo trip with the youth, so the bishop asked her to speak, and she actually said yes! Then we tried some potentials in the area, before having some awesome and hilarious practice lessons with members.
There it is! It is all still up and down, but I am learning so much. I love the people in this area, and I really want to make the most of this are while I'm here. I miss y'all and I love y'all so so SO much!! Talk to you next week!
Out of context quotes:
"I like having pockets in my suit. I can pull papers out like a secret agent."
"I dated that for three years."
"Christ coming to America? What a great idea!"
"I'd rather be shooting things than talking to people."
"Diligence sounded like a Latin word, so I looked it up and "gence" means "cheek" so not at all related."
"Life is just a game of leapfrog with Jesus."
"How old are you?"
"19, almost 20."
"What comes after that?"
"21"
"21!! That is the last number!!"
"I know and after that I'm going to die."
