"That's not a zero. That's an o for optimism." (Week 36)
Hello family and friends! How was your week? This week was crazy! We had
some amazing experiences, but also some really weird ones...
Monday was the most normal day. Lunch at the Smiths and chilling on Front Street. It was honestly way fun.
Tuesday was really cool! We had district meeting way out yonder, and on the way back we contacted as many members and investigators as we could. And we found 2 lost members! One of them was total divine intervention because her records aren't even in the ward. We knocked on her door to ask directions, and turns out she is a member and we got her info and expressed love and invited her to come back to church. Then we stopped by another members house that lived in the middle of no where, and she asked us how we found her and how her dogs let us live. She was really cool actually. She hasn't been to church in like 19 years, and the missionaries haven't stopped by in 5 years. We got to know her and her daughters, and they said we could come back anytime!
Wednesday the most notable thing was probably getting anti-ed. We were looking for someone but they weren't home, so we were like 'let's tract this whole building'. As we were walking towards the 3rd door the spirit said no. So we were like okay and we went to a different building. Then this lady with green hair comes up to us and asks us if we are the Mormons. She said she had been taught everything and we were thinking 'ah blessings. Maybe she is ready now.' Then she leads us to her apartment which was the one THE SPIRIT SAID NOT TO GO TO! She then proceeds to tell us how the Book of Mormon is evil and we don't believe in the bible and we don't know our own religion and if we did a Google search we would find out how evil our church is. All we could do was testify and invite her to learn more from the source, but she wasn't having it. She even had her kid throw the Book of Mormon in the dumpster as we were walking away! Yikes. That is going to catch us to hee someday. Getting bashed just strengthens my testimony of the restored church. The Book of Mormon and modern prophets really are amazing gifts from God.
Thursday was normal. Jensen and I only had a slight existential crisis about our futures. It's fine. I'm fine. We're all fine. 😓
Friday was just a crazy ride. We started off with a gold lesson with a new investigator who believes everything we say and LOVES reading the Book of Mormon. Then we knocked on some doors and got return appointments with half of them which is awesome! And then a bit later things got weird. We were walking through this trailer park and this lady calls to us and we go over. She is all shifty at first asking if we know about the "deal" and we are assuming she thinks we are drug dealers. Then she goes inside and grabs a big stack of papers and explains very passionately that the Mormons are at war with the Muslims and she is somehow caught in the middle in a ponzey scheme and this is making the earth crack and something about banks and Joseph Smith and African Americans the 1700's... We promised her that the church is not involved in whatever she was talking about and we got the heck out of there finally after 30 minutes. Then as we were about to leave someone BACKED INTO OUR CAR! And then LEFT! But the Lord is merciful and the car was fine. 😅 One elder made the comment that I have already spent enough of my mission on a bike so he blessed me by not having to put it back in the shop. Then we had mission coordination and halfway through the ward mission leader decided we were done I guess and just left. So I don't know what is going on there??
Saturday and Sunday were finally pretty chill. Nothing too crazy happened so basically not worth mentioning at this point lol.
So yeah that's my week. Hopefully I was adequately able to communicate the weirdness of the week. And hopefully y'all had some crazy experiences that you can email me about 😉. I love you all so much!!!!
Out of context quotes: "That's not a zero. That's an o for optimism."
"Who wants to get pneumonia and baptisms?"
"Apparently we are terrorists..."
"Police officers don't have problems."
